Creams don't works. Balms don't work. And wishing certainly doesn't work.
But lasers do.

Tattoo removal procedures are now possible with modern laser light technology.

With older lasers, such as CO2 and argon lasers, scarring occurred, since those treatments removed the skin along with the tattoo. At Vivesse we use the state of the art three wavelength Quanta Q Plus C laser. This technology works by targeting the ink granules of the tattoo with laser energy. As the ink absorbs the energy the granules are disrupted and broken into tiny particles. These particles move slowly through the lymphatic system and are excreted in the urine. This process takes 6-8 weeks.

What types of tattoos can be removed?

With the Quanta system we can remove professional, amateur (homemade), traumatic and surgical tattoos.

How long will it take?

Laser tattoo removal is not a quick fix. You should plan on 5 to 10 sessions separated by 6 to 8 weeks. Amateur tattoos can be treated faster than professional tattoos. Also, different inks respond differently to laser energy.

What colors can be removed?

There are over 100 shades of ink used in tattoos, none of which are FDA regulated. All of them vary in their response to laser energy. Thus, for any tattoo it may be difficult to predict the response. Dark (blue, black) and red inks will resolve the best. Oranges and purples usually fade as well. Green and yellow inks are the most difficult to remove, and additional treatments are needed to produce significant fading.

Will the tattoo completely disappear?

Some do, more than 90% fading of the tattoo can generally be accomplished. Again, the response depends on the specifics of your tattoo and on the inks that were used. The practitioner cannot predict the degree of removal of a given tattoo without knowing the tattoo ink which was used, or how deeply it was applied.

We also work with tattoo artists to reink a new piece of art by performing two laser treatments to fade the ink so that new art may be applied to healthy skin without the need of a "cover up" tattoo.

Is it painful?

Most patients describe laser treatment as similar to the tattoo being applied, but faster and more intense. Most tattoo removal sessions take 15 to 30 minutes for a small or medium sized tattoo. Anesthetics and pain meds are not necessary. Numbing creams may be used at the time of and after the procedure. At Vivesse, we also use the Zimmer skin cooling system that dramatically decreases any discomfort.

What about downtime?

There is no downtime with this procedure. You can go back to work and resume all normal activities immediately. Our only recommendations are that you avoid strenuous exercise, alcohol and aspirin for a day, and keep the area bandaged for a few days… that's about it.

Are there any side-effects?

Post-treatment scarring is rare with laser tattoo removal. There may be some minor pin-point bleeding and more sensitive patients experience some discomfort. But, the procedure is very well tolerated with minimal difficulties.
